A Parents Story

This time last year you could have depended on me to know 101 things to do with ketchup! As a parent I was constantly inundated with advice about children’s food and nutrition, how I should and shouldn’t cook and lots of do’s and don’ts.

This had resulted in my cooking experience being one of fear and stress and therefore, the meals I was putting together were not up to much! And although it didn’t occur to me at the time, my children were not enjoying their meals either. So really, I was giving them a serving of upset, anguish and frustration. "How many of you reading this have asked the question ‘If only my children would WANT to eat healthily, mealtimes would not be so much of a battlefield!"

Well a year ago I discovered the Food Magician and I was inspired! I tried some recipes with my children and I have not looked back. My son now eats food that he would not even look at before and my daughter wants to become a chef! Their eating habits have changed as they CHOOSE the healthy option because their bodies aren’t craving the high glycemic, starchy foods. As for me you can now depend on me to cook with love and happiness.

The Food Magicians’ Companion to Cooking with Love
For many of us, growing up confused or anxious about food, it is difficult to know what to teach our children.

Food and eating has become a tangled web for parents and children alike. We are seeing an upsurge of eating disorders among ever younger children and an epidemic of childhood obesity, whilst ever increasing numbers of teenagers leave home without knowing what it means to nourish themselves or how to prepare a simple meal.

I believe we must intervene now to prevent another generation of children growing up confused and anxious about food. We need a concept of food that extends far beyond facts and figures, calories and fats. A philosophy that takes us beyond fear and anxiety and enters the realm of love.

We need to offer our children something in childhood that will not only ensure that they grow up knowing how to cook for themselves and others, but that they feel good about themselves and excited about their food, their bodies and their lives.

To this end I offer you this book.

Be prepared for transformation!

"It was great not to think I needed to get the evening meal ready whilst my toddler had her afternoon sleep, it was a fun activity we could do together! She loved the whole experience, from wearing a little apron to adding ingredients, helping ‘chop’ and stirring, watching it go into the oven and being very proud of the end result!

I have to admit I’d not really plucked up the courage to actually involve her in the whole of cooking a meal before, but the food magician recipes were so quick and simple. There was even time for a quick story whilst our tea was in the oven!

On another occasion when Rebecca had a 2-year-old friend coming over for tea with his Dad, the little ones did the cooking for us all with great delight! Only a few spills, no need to get food ready before everyone arrived, a fun activity for the kids and we all got to eat tasty healthy food together.

My children had great fun making ‘Wisdom Rolls’: They loved getting hands in with kneading the dough and were excited to see the balls of dough magically rise and, guess what, excited to be eating them too!

"Catherine has created a delightful book for kids to cook. It’s a masterstroke – I can’t imagine anyone (adult or child) not feeling inspired and wanting to get in the kitchen and create magic. This book is exactly what parents need to awaken an interest in the fun that can be had from creating healthy food in the family kitchen. I tried the Lucky Cookie recipe and couldn’t believe how easy it was. Well done.
